Book Bonanza Haul
My physical TBR shelf would probably love it if I skipped a book sale, but my book loving self cannot miss a book sale. Especially one as great as my city’s Book Bonanza Sale. It is the highlight of every July for me.
The Book Bonanza is a three day sale of used books, board games, puzzles, cds, audiobooks etc. that happens the second weekend in July. All books are donated (This year I donated six bags) and money earned goes to help the county library system. Everything is super cheap and you can always get your hands on some great finds.
I am SUPER happy with what I found this year.
I went into the sale with one thing in mind; don’t buy things just to by them. In past sales, I found myself buying books because I heard of them on Booktube and not because I had an actual interest in reading them. I love Booktube, but a lot of what I watch seems to be Romance, YA and Fantasy heavy, genres I don’t read much of. And because I love books, and really can’t pass up a beautiful cover, i would just buy anything that sounded familiar to me. And guess what? A lot of those books went to be donated back so someone could enjoy them more than me.
So this sale was all about looking for things I actually wanted to read. And I have to say, I am pretty proud of myself, because I did just that.
Some of these books I don’t know much about. Three of them fall under mystery/thriller/suspense. Her One Mistake by Heidi Perks, Dead Letters by Caite Dolan-Leach and She Lies in Wait by Gytha Lodge. And I would rather not know too much about them. This genre is one of my favorite to read and I love going in blind.
Winter Garden, by Kristin Hannah, A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles and The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett all fall under Historical Fiction. One of my FAVORITE genres (and future blog post). I tried to read A Gentleman in Moscow one time before but had a hard time getting into it. But I have had too many people tell me how good it is, so I decided to try again. As for the other two, I will pretty much read anything by either of these authors. When I came across Pillars of the Earth, I just about jumped for joy. For a paperback, it is in great condition and I couldn’t pass it up.
For those days when I just need a Contemporary read, I picked up Harry’s Trees by Jon Cohen (which I know nothing about but has GREAT ratings on GoodReads), No One is Coming to Save US by Stephanie Powell Watts (again I know nothing about this except I’ve just been wanting to read this) and Commencement by J. Courtney Sullivan. I have read a few from J. Courtney Sullivan and have enjoyed them enough to continue to read her backlist.
One that I am not sure which genre it falls in would be 11/22/63 by Stephen King. I have been on a Stephen King binge lately. Or rather a book buying binge. I have only completed the NIll Hodges Trilogy, which I loved. Whenever I see a used King book I pick it up, with the intention of reading it in the future. So when I saw this for all of $2, I had to get it. It helps that I have heard great things about it, so I am planning on picking this up sooner rather than later.
And lastly, I have Shopaholic and Sister by Sophie Kinsella. I love Sophie Kinsella. They are such great, easy, breezy fun reads. I have already read this and actually have all of the series (up to date). I have just been going back and picking up the hardbacks of the ones I only have in paperback. I am planning a reread of this series in anticipation of the newest installment of the series. The same goes for The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. I read this earlier in the year and absolutely loved it. I needed to have my own copy, and now I do!
